Andrés is deeply committed to mentoring & empowering students from all backgrounds.
As a Ph.D. student at Columbia University, Andrés was awarded the department’s Jack Miller award for his teaching in the general chemistry lecture & laboratory series & later served as TA for the graduate quantum chemistry course.
Throughout his career, Andrés has actively pursued his passion for teaching and helping others grow, mentoring high school, undergraduate & graduate students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, immigrant status, race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation, guiding them in their exploration of research & helping them navigate the college, graduate school, & medical school application processes.

RFK Science Research Institute (RFKSRI)
Andrés has served as scientific advisor (2016 – Present) & mentor (2011 – Present) at the RFKSRI – a program that provides high school & undergraduate students, especially those from underrepresented groups from the New York City area – an opportunity to do research in geochemistry, archaeology, & paleoanthropology to develop their critical thinking, logical reasoning, scientific writing & presentation skills. As part of this program, Andrés has mentored more than 20 students over the past decade.

Stanford University Chapter
Andrés served as an informal mentor to a graduate student in biophysics (2016-2017) through the oSTEM mentoring program, a national student society dedicated to increasing the participation of queer people in disciplines related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
